[Local reporting] “Surviving on their own, potential confirmed”…
JYJ, Hope found in Germany (synthesis)

[Dispatch l Berlin (Germany) = correspondent Seo HyunYoung, journalist Na Jiyeon]
Three members appeared on the dark stage with a tense look. That moment, the entire hall was covered with the shouts of fangirls. Stable vocals and brilliant performances. We were able to realize the popularity of K-pop in Europe.
‘JYJ World Tour 2011′ was held at 7:00pm (local time) Nov 6th at TEMPODROM, Berlin, Germany. This concert is the final destination of JYJ World Tour which has come across 13 cities in total (including Seoul, Taiwan, Thailand, New Jersey, Vancouver, Spain, etc. Asia, North America and Europe).
JYJ is the first Korean artist to hold a solo concert in Germany. Over 2,800 fans from all over Europe gathered around the venue four hours before the show. European fandom showed off itself by waving placards in Hangul, fans and light sticks.
JYJ were also more full of vigor than ever. They jumped and ran continuously, took over the stage. They waved their hands side to side, poured down their passion. Their live singing, which was still steady even though the choreography was intense, from drama OST to solo songs, through the stage of various repertories, formed a splendid ‘Night of Germany’.

◆“Brilliant start, we introduce to you JYJ”

The video of their new song ‘In Heaven’ announced the start of the concert. With the shouts of fans, JYJ appeared on the stage and opened fire with ‘Empty’, a dance song in their English album. After the enthusiastic first stage, the members greeted their fans “We’re happy to meet fans in Berlin.”
The concert continued with exciting stages. Ayyy girl, Pierrot, Be my girl, etc., they performed in rotation the songs included in English and Korean albums that they released under the name JYJ. Even when dancing pretty wildly, their harmony and their high notes still stood out. Three members of JYJ were in best harmony.
Solo stages were also impressive. Yoochun, Jaejoong, and Junsu were on stage in turn, Yoochun with female dancers in the hottest ‘I LOVE YOU’, Jaejoong’s ballad ‘I’ll protect you’, Junsu’s ‘You’re so beautiful’. All made fangirls’ heart flutter.

◆ “Hit song, Europe sang along”

Atmosphere of the latter half got even hotter. When ‘Found you’, OST of ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ resonated, the cheering of fans reached the climax. Though it was a song in strange Korean, fans sang along with a fluent pronunciation. Such an exotic scene that we were able to see.
After that was ‘Be the One’, ‘Fallen Leaves’, ‘Mission’, etc.  Enthusiastically jumping on the stage, they made eye contact with fans and showed off their stage manners. But there was a regrettable sound incident that Yoochun’s voice couldn’t be heard in ‘Fallen Leaves’.
Lastly, the concert closed with ‘In Heaven’, title track of their Korean album. Fans immediately chanted in Korean, ‘I love you’, ‘Don’t leave’. On this, JYJ sang encore song and promised to come back, which soothed the sadness of fans.

◆ “2 hours, European fandom with laughter and tears”

The support of fans was passionate. A stage of about 2 hours. The venue shone with red, JYJ’s cheering color. From 1st to 3rd floor, fans filled almost every seat. Despite the long show, their shouts, as always, confirmed the heat of the concert.
The support was the same as in Korea. During the songs, they chanted the members’ names. They also sang along. Although they are from different nationalities, they have different faces and different skin colors; the way they cheered was not different from Korean fans. The scale was pretty small but the cheering shouts were loud.
The image of them enjoying [JYJ’s music] was unique. They shook their body in exciting dance songs. For ballads, getting emotional over the songs, they waved hands side to side. JYJ jumped, fans also jumped; JYJ danced, fans also danced. It was a time that you could feel the free-spirited atmosphere and their own passionate performing arts.

◆ “Tents at dawn, getting excited even at night”

There were about 2,800 people gathered at the venue. According to the result confirmed by Dispatch, there were 200 empty seats out of the total 3,000 seats. The official os C-Jes Entertainment that we met in Berlin explained, “2,800 fans attended the concert. Among them, there were 120 VIP tickets.”
But the excitement of fans was hot from the day before the concert. Some ardent fans have waited in line from Nov 5th night. College student Josetin (23) said, “This ticket will be exchanged for seat number the day of the concert. In order to catch a good seat, the only way is to wait from the night before.”
More than 100 passionate fans gathered at Potsdamer Platz, a famous tourist attraction, for a cheerleading practice. Mikaella (21) said, “We have practiced following Korean fans’ words or movements. Korean is hard but as we practiced continuously, now it comes out naturally from our mouths.”
◆ “JYJ, surviving on their own, potential confirmed”

JYJ’s Berlin concert is the first solo concert of a Korean artist in Germany. 70% of attendees were non-Asians. Most of them came from various European countries. The rest were Japanese, Thai and Taiwanese fans, as well as overseas Korean fans.
Severely disabled people in wheelchairs could also be seen at the venue. It was impressive the way they enjoyed music regardless of inconvenient body. In addition, there were many people that came with their family, hand in hand with their parents. We could recognize the growing of K-pop fanbase.
The response to the concert was able to be measured from sales volume of concert related goods. T-shirt or necklace, etc., goods related to JYJ were in demand more after the concert. ‘We’re satisfied with the concert’ was a representative appraisal from fans. Many fans waited in front of JYJ’s car, showing that they couldn’t easily let go of the concert’s lingering imagery.
JYJ’s Berlin concert was a concert where ‘hope’ is larger than ‘scale’. It was a small-scale concert with 3000 seats, but that heat was more excited than any stage. Also, the support of fans, regardless of frontier and ethnicity, age and skin color, was an opportunity to prove JYJ’s possibility of survival on their own.
